About this Course

Have you been listening to Taishanese conversations for years at the dinner table but found it clueless of what your families were saying, or have been looking for simple ways to connect with your families by having a conversation with them in Taishanese? The Taishanese-learning zone is a dessert for its heritage speakers who grew up oversea, not only due to its lack of learning resource, but also due to the discouraging conception that it is useless to learn Taishanese, in comparison to other more popular dialects of Chinese.

We hope to make a change in the smallest ways by making Taishanese resource available to everyone. Whether you are a frequent listener of the Learn Taishanese Daily podcast, or you are referred to this course by a friend, you are welcome to join this Heritage Taishanese 2 course. This Heritage Taishanese 2 course is designed for learners who have had a little exposure to speaking Taishanese to families and now want to build a language foundation to strengthen the conversational skills. In this course, you will be introduced with more Taishanese sentence structures and vocabulary, as well as the application of our Romanzation system and tones (Wu’s Phonetic System). After studying this 8-week course, you will be able to express your thoughts more accurately in Taishanese.

After studying this 8-week course, you will be able to ask and answer basic questions in Taishanese and hold a simple conversation with your family.

Writing

There will be 15 minutes in each session that is used to study traditional Chinese characters so that you can recognize more characters the next time you visit Chinatown!
