About this Course
Have you been listening to Taishanese conversations for years at the dinner table, but still don't understand what your family is saying? Have you been looking for simple ways to connect with your families by having a conversation with them in Taishanese?
The Taishanese-learning zone is a desert for its heritage speakers who grew up overseas, not only due to its lack of learning resources but also because of the discouraging notion that it is useless to learn Taishanese compared to other more popular Chinese dialects.
We hope to make a change in the smallest ways by making Taishanese resources available to everyone. Whether you are a frequent listener of the Learn Taishanese Daily podcast, or you are referred to this course by a friend, you are welcome to join this Heritage Taishanese 1 course.
This course is designed for non-native or heritage speakers who have connections with Taishanese family members but have little or no experience in formal learning. In this course, you will be introduced to the basic Taishanese sentence structures and vocabulary, as well as the application of our Romanization system and tones (Wu’s Phonetic System).
After studying this 8-week course, you will be able to ask and answer basic questions in Taishanese and hold a simple conversation with your family.
Writing
There will be 15 minutes in each session that is used to study traditional Chinese characters so that you can recognize more characters the next time you visit Chinatown!
Not sure which level fits you the best? Schedule a 15-minute coffee chat consultation with us.
